We are back for a second year of my two favorite things… the Buffalo Bills and food!

Wildcard Playoff Game

So excited to see my Bills make the playoffs to break an 18 year drought!  Too bad they couldn’t get enough offense going to win, but we are definitely on the right track with this team.  I braised a chuck roast low and slow with potatoes and veges to make a hearty pot roast for the big game.  See you next year!  Go Bills!

Week 17: Happy New Year Indeed!

The Bills beat the Dolphins on this New Year’s Eve game that was a must-win for Buffalo to get into the playoffs.  A 17 year playoff drought is over!  I went simple with a NY Strip steak (“steaking” our claim to a playoff spot).  I crusted it up to perfection in a cast iron pan and then topped it with herbed butter.


Week 16: Christmas Eve game

I’m a little late this week.  Still reeling from the Bills game.  It’s hard enough to beat the Patriots without the refs taking points away from you!  Still a chance to make the playoffs, so we have to stay optimistic.  This game fell on Christmas Eve which is a traditional Italian meal for us.  My wife makes awesome homemade sauce, we have Nannie salad, and Baby Jesus birthday cake.

Week 15:  “Squish the Fish” Tacos

Big win for my Buffalo Bills against the Dolphins today!  This is breaded haddock with an Asian-style slaw, fresh lime juice and cilantro.  Playoffs are looking even better after today.


Week 14: Black and White Chili

Ground turkey and beef, white and black beans, peppers and onions, and lots of spices.  This chili always hits home on a cold December day.  My Bills pulled out a crazy win in the “snow bowl” over the Colts.  We’re still in playoff contention!


Week 13: Monster Chicken Sandwich

At least this sandwich was good. The Bills were lousy.  This is hand-breaded crispy chicken with garlicky broccoli rabe and giardinera relish.  Still hate the Patriots.


Week 12: Pumped Up Ziti

I wanted something red and saucy for the Bills game against the Chiefs.  I made this baked ziti with sauteed pulled pork, mushrooms, ricotta, mozzarella, and fresh herbs.  Big win for the Bills to get off the losing train!


Week 11: Cinnamon Swirl French Toast

The Bills’ loss was so bad, I couldn’t even bring myself to cook anything on Sunday.  I had to wait until the next morning to make this.  It is Panera’s cinnamon raisin swirl bread (yum!) with homemade whipped cream.  Come on Buffalo!  This three game losing streak is killing me.


Week 10: Lemon Cake

I had to make something sweet to drown my sorrows after the Bills got crushed by the Saints.  This is a yellow cake with a lemony glaze and a whipped cream that is infused with lemon zest.  Yummy dessert, terrible football.


Week 9:  Pete’s Pizza

This is one of our favorite household dishes.  It’s great to take to a party, too.  It’s a Crescent roll dough, Ranch-flavored cream cheese schmear, and then top it with your favorite vegetables and cheeses.  A sad effort by the Bills against the Jets today.


Week 8: Pumpkin Apple Crumb Cake

A sweet victory for the Bills over the Raiders!  I made pumpkin cake topped with apple pie-like apples and a crumb topping.  Nothing better than a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some caramel sauce to top it all off!


Week 7: Latin Lasagna

This dish was a good as the Bills win over Tampa Bay!  I used flour tortillas and layered in chicken, white beans, cheese, and salsa.


Week 6: Avocado Toasts

My Bills had a bye week this week, but are looking pretty good after the first five games.  Avocado toasts seemed like the perfect snack for this week’s games.


Week 5: Avocado & Grilled Peach Caprese

This mash-up was really good!  I took a basic caprese salad (fresh mozzarella, basil, and tomatoes) and added avocado, grilled peaches, and topped it off with a lemony vinaigrette.  Too bad my Bills couldn’t pull off a winner like this in Cincinnati.


Week 4: Grilled Fish Tacos

Made a spice paste and added it to the tuna steaks before grilling.  Topped with slaw, queso fresco, and a homemade lime/avocado crema.  Huge win for the Bills today against the Super Bowl runner-up Falcons.  These tacos were awesome!


Week 3: “Mile High” Bread Pudding

Bread pudding is like a dessert casserole.  Take all your leftovers and make something delicious!  This one has biscuits, bananas, peanut butter sauce, and candied bacon.  Maybe I should make desserts more often because my Bills looked awesome today with a huge win over the Broncos.


Week 2: Shrimp and Grits

The Bills traveled south to Carolina and lost a tough one, 9 to 3.  We almost pulled it out at the end!  Had to make a southern inspired dish to comfort me.


Week 1:  Eating our Greens

Stuffed bread with sauteed shallots, apples, Craisins, spinach, pork sausage, and cheese.  I wanted to crunch something green as my Bills took care of the Jets 21-12.  The Bills now hold first place in the AFC East!
